Seed Saving 101 with Ben Cohen

Wednesday, August 28, 2019

Open to Public - Library Sponsored

Ben Cohen, founder of The Michigan Seed Library Initiative, owner of Small House Farms, and author of the book, “From Our Seeds and Their Keepers,” will be presenting a seed saving talk and workshop. This workshop will cover the specifics of how and when to harvest seeds from a number of traditional garden veggies. It will cover the basics of pollination, interspecies crossing and isolation, but will mostly focus on harvesting, cleaning, and storage of seeds. Ben will also demonstrate seed harvesting basics with tomatoes and discuss fermentation techniques. The talk will also be laced with information of community seed banks and why community participation is crucial to the seed library’s continued success.
