Juvenile Court Jurisdiction

Jurisdiction 


The juvenile court has general jurisdiction of the following proceedings: 

  • Proceedings in which a child is alleged to be delinquent, unruly or dependent and neglected, or to have committed a juvenile traffic offense;
  • Proceedings in which an adult is alleged to have committed the offense of Contributing to the Delinquency, Unruliness, or Dependency and Neglect;
  • Proceedings of Termination of Parental Rights and Surrenders pursuant to title 36, chapter 1, part 1;
  • Proceedings of Parentage/Legitimation in which a child was born out of wedlock;
  • Proceedings of Child Custody and Visitation;
  • Proceedings of Child Support for a child born out of wedlock or receiving State benefits;
  • Proceedings in which a child is in need of an Emergency Psychiatric Commitment due to a mental illness or serious emotional disturbance AND the child poses an immediate substantial likelihood of serious harm because of mental illness or serious emotional distress;
  • Proceedings in which a child is in need of a Judicial By-Pass;
  • Proceedings in which an Enforcement of foreign judgments is warranted.
