Traffic Division
The Traffic Division handles all minor traffic offenses that are issued by the Blount County Sheriff's Office, and Tennessee Highway Patrol. In addition, our office processes all citations issued under the Blount County Ordinances. Most Traffic cases can be handled through our office without having to appear in court. However, there are some instances where this would not be an option. This division was specifically designed to better serve the public with minimal inconvenience.
If you have been charged with a minor moving traffic violation, you have three options in handling your case:
If you have insurance coverage, but did not have proof at the time, you may provide proof at the clerk's office (the citation date should fall within the effective period, your name and vehicle listed on the citation has to appear on the provided proof). The case will be dismissed at no charge.
You may bring proof of valid registration or valid drivers license to the clerk's office, and your case will be dismissed upon payment of the cost.
If you get the equipment repaired and bring proof of repairs or drive the vehicle and have an officer determine if the equipment is operable, your case will be dismissed upon payment of the cost.
Eligible charges for school unless the charge was the result of an accident:
If eligible, it is required that the defendant make arrangement with the clerk's office to sign up for class before the scheduled court date. The defendant will be given a choice of class dates to choose from. If necessary, and this is the original court date, the clerk will reset the case in order to give the defendant time to complete the school and pay the dismissal cost. The case must be paid by the court date either in person or by mail. The defendant must also bring or mail the original certificate of completion. A box is provided at the Blount County Probation Office for your certificate along with a Kiosk to make your payment. The Court keeps the original certificate and places it in the file.
We will not accept payment without the original certificate. Copies will not be accepted.
We do not accept personal checks. Individuals may pay with a cashiers check, money order, credit/debit card (additional processing fees will be charged) or cash.
Deputy Clerks cannot give legal advice. They will file your paperwork, but they cannot advise you on what action you should take. You should consult an attorney for legal advice.
For your convenience in making payments, Kiosk machines are located in the jail lobby (24 hour access) and at the Blount County Probation Office and at the County Clerks Drive Thru located at 500 N Cusick Street Maryville TN
