School Resource Officers

Innovative

The Blount County Sheriff's Office was ahead of the curve with implementing a School Resource Officer (SRO) program 17 years ago. The School Resource Officers (SRO) Unit began in 1996 with two deputies at each of Blount County’s high schools. Today, there are 23 deputies assigned to the SRO Unit -- one in each of the county’s schools, and two supervisors who go to schools as needed. SRO’s are specially trained in tactical response and crisis management, conflict resolution, and child development. During the summer months, SROs assist with patrol duties, court services, and special teams.
