Emergency Bridge Closure at 5009 Big Springs Road

Today, February 13, 2023 the Blount County Highway Superintendent, Jeff Headrick, announced the indefinite closure of the

bridge located at 5009 Big Springs Road near US 321.

The emergency closure is due to structural deficiencies observed by the Highway Superintendent and the

County Engineer.

Highway Superintendent Headrick said, “While I never like closing any road, my top priority is to keep the

Blount County citizens as safe as possible.”

At this time, there is no schedule for reopening the bridge. Different options for repairs are currently being

explored.

Notice of Road Closure:

Please be advised of the following dates for the road closure on Mt. Tabor Rd, set for March 13th  and 14th from 8:30am-6:00pm each day. This will allow Hurst Construction to make their final bore on the sewer along Old Glory Rd and Mt. Tabor Rd.

PLEASE BE AWARE:

TDOT informed the City of Alcoa of upcoming road closures that are part of the State Industrial Access (SIA) project. These closures include needed road improvements for Louisville Road, Louisville Loop, Lovingood Way, and Proffitt Springs Road. Beginning Monday, January 30, a portion of Proffitt Springs Road and Louisville Loop will be closed to all traffic. A detour route is in place, and there will be limited access for residential driveways and emergency responders only. This detour will be in place for approximately five months.

A map is included for viewing. The highlighted red route is closed completely to any traffic. The highlighted purple route is closed with exemptions for residents living in this area and first responders. The highlighted green route is the detour route for Louisville Loop and Proffitt Springs Road. We thank you for your patience during this project.

Blount County and the City of Maryville have partnered with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration to embark on a planning process to result in the improvement of approximately 2.3 miles of Morganton Road from it’s intersection with Foothills Mall Drive to the intersection of William Blount Drive.

HELLO NEIGHBORS!
The Blount County Highway Department in concert with the City of Maryville and in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration is taking the first step toward improving Morganton Road from Foothills Mall Drive to William Blount Drive. As discussed in our Public Meeting (9-13-18), you will begin to see members of our professional design team conducting field investigations in the project area. They may be on your property. We are asking for your understanding in allowing this work to be accomplished. We do not expect this work to be destructive. Any/all sampling sites will be restored to their present condition.
